Colin Montgomerie today announced he will continue playing in the United States after previously stating he would boycott PGA tournaments from next season because of the treatment he receives from American fans.
Montgomerie was taunted during his first-round defeat to Scott McCarron in the Accenture World Match Play Championship in California two weeks ago.
But in a statement today, Montgomerie said: "Over the past week, the assurances that I have received from the PGA Tour and tournament promoters - coupled with the support I have received via phone calls, letters and e-mails from genuine American golf fans - have convinced me that I should not let a small minority dictate where I should play my golf."
Montgomerie, who won the European Order of Merit seven years in a row, was also the subject of abuse from spectators during the controversial 1999 Ryder Cup in Brookline.
