A Monaghan man who served part of a three year sentence for stabbing his girlfriend, and then failed to appear for a court appearance, has been re admitted to bail by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Derek Comiskey (34), formerly of Glaslough, had been jailed for stabbing Ms Ann Byrne at their home on Cortolvin Road, Monaghan on February 22nd, 1991.
He served 10 months of that sentence before being released on bail on conditions. When he failed to appear on a remand date, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
Mr Hugh Mohan, defending, told Judge Cyril Kelly his client was working in England. He liaised with the gardai when he returned to Ireland.
Sgt Peter Holland told Mr George Birmingham, prosecuting, that there had not been any further trouble between him and Ms Byrne.
Judge Kelly remanded Comiskey on continuing bail to February 3rd, 1997, on condition that he continue to reside in Ballina.
