Monaco have been relegated to the second division after failing to satisfy French football's financial watchdog about their reported large budget deficit.

The club, which finished runners-up to Lyon in the first division and won the League Cup, have six days to appeal against the decision to the French Football Federation.

The club has a reported deficit of €53 million but failed to provide sufficient assurances when called to explain the deficit last week.

Monaco is coached by former Chelsea player Didier Deschamps.
