A Bantry boy, now six, received burns to his arm when molten lead melted on a ladder which was placed against uninsulated ESB wires, a court has been told. Brian O'Sullivan, of Donemark, Bantry, was only six months old and was being carried in his mother's arms as she walked under the ladder, which was placed against O'Connor's Sea Food Restaurant at The Square, Bantry, on July 20th, 1990.
A handyman, Mr Eugene Cronin, said he did not realise the ESB wires were not insulated and he did not know that the ladder was placed against them.
Judge Patrick Moran, in Cork Circuit Court, awarded the boy £12,000 for his injuries, holding that Mr Matthew O'Connor, owner of the restaurant, and the ESB were each 50 per cent responsible.
