Nairobi - President Daniel arap Moi of Kenya dismissed the clergy as "merchants of anarchy" after church leaders called for the suspension of the country's current constitution and the drafting of a new one.
The Catholic and main Protestant churches on Thursday said Mr Moi's administration lacked the "moral authority" to govern, accusing it of failing to act with resolve to end politically motivated violence in the Rift Valley.
Mr Moi said church leaders should not "dream" that a Philippines-style revolution would succeed in Kenya, the official Kenya Broadcasting Corporation reported.
