DESPITE the completely miserable weather over 850 people (mostly women) braved the cold on Monday night for Eddie Shanahan's annual Models for Charity fashion - show at the RDS. Niamh Sheeran from the Hospice Foundation had reason to look pleased as the evening raised over £16,000 - every penny of which goes directly into the charity's coffers.
Dolores Kavanagh looked equally pleased - she won the most glamorous prize in the raffle, a stunning Brid Nihill dress. Also there was Marie Donnelly, who will take over chairing the Hospice Foundation in January when Mary Redmond steps down.
The ever persuasive Eddie managed to get everyone involved with the show to do it for nothing, and for "serious fashion fans there was a unique chance to see clothes by Alexander McQueen - Britain's newest bad boy of fashion. It was all possible thanks to Alan Boyce, who owns the Toni & Guy salons in Ireland and whose team coiffed all the models' heads on the night. He'll shortly be bringing his very hip approach to hair to Cork when he opens his salon there early in the New Year.
