Belgrade - The former Bosnian Serb military chief, Gen Ratko Mladic, one of the suspects most wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal, is in hiding in Serbia, the court's chief prosecutor, Ms Carla Del Ponte, said yesterday. "We have spoken (to the authorities in Belgrade) about the fugitive Mladic given that, according to our information, he is here," Ms Del Ponte told reporters before leaving the Serbian capital for Bosnia.
Earlier in Sarajevo the head of the NATO Stabilisation Force in Bosnia, Gen Michael Dodson, said for the first time that he knew where Mr Radovan Karadzic and Gen Mladic were located, but that they were not in Bosnia. Ms Del Ponte also assured Serbia that her court was investigating allegations of war crimes committed by ethnic Albanians in Kosovo. Ms Del Ponte's office had said she would pressure Belgrade to transfer all war crimes indictees in Serbia.
