Ireland's contestant in Miss World, Ms Lynda Duffy, is remaining in Nigeria for the December 7th event despite violence in the country.
One hundred and five people have been killed in rioting in the north of the country surrounding protests over the Miss World event.
Countries such as Denmark, Italy, South Africa and Spain have boycotted the beauty contest in protest at the treatment of a woman (31) in the north of Nigeria, who has been sentenced to death by stoning for the "crime" of having a baby out of wedlock.
A Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman told ireland.comthey were in contact with representatives in Nigeria to assess the risks to Irish citizens there.
