Jerusalem - As Israel yesterday held a military parade to celebrate the capture of the Old City and the eastern Arab sector of Jerusalem in the Six-Day War of 1967, two government ministers warned a new conflict with the Palestinians was imminent unless the peace process was resuscitated, writes David Horovitz. Thousands of soldiers marched through west Jerusalem as the annual "Jerusalem Day" celebrations were expanded because, this year, they coincide with Israel's year-long 50th anniversary festivities. Off the march route, rightwing extremists scuffled with Palestinian security guards outside the Palestinians' East Jerusalem headquarters, at the Orient House.
Israel's Prime Minister, Mr Benjamin Netanyahu, said yesterday his job was to get "a real peace process on track". Israel's Defence Minister, Mr Yitzhak Mordechai, said that if no deal was reached soon on the next Israeli troop withdrawal from occupied West Bank territory, "there's going to be bloodshed".
