The Government will consult the two new regional assemblies for the Border, midlands and west, and for the south and east, when Ministers travel to Roscommon and Cork in January, writes Denis Coghlan, Chief Political Correspondent.

As part of its regionalisation programme under the new National Development Plan, the Government has undertaken to meet elected representatives to the new bodies and to discuss their priorities and plans in advance of the production of a draft consultative document by the Department of Finance in March.

The Government has agreed to meet the regional bodies in Ballaghadereen, Co Roscommon, on January 19th and in Knocknaheeney, Co Cork, on January 25th.
