Dili - A pro-Jakarta militia leader has closed a border crossing between West Timor and the East Timorese enclave of Oecussi, multinational peacekeepers said yesterday. The enclave lies within Indonesia's West Timor and is only partially secured by the foreign force.
While the multinational force said it has made great strides in smoothing border tensions, Col Mark Kelly, spokesman for the UN-mandated force in charge of East Timor, said the Indonesian military (TNI) was colluding with militiamen in this case.
In another development, the East Timorese independence leader, Mr Xanana Gusmao, has attacked the international effort to rebuild the ravaged territory, saying aid organisations were not co-operating with Timorese officials.
