LONDON – Labour leader Ed Miliband has undergone a successful nose operation to treat sleep apnoea, a condition that interrupts breathing during sleep, his office said yesterday.

It was carried out in central London to correct a deviated septum in a bid to alleviate the respiratory condition, which interrupts sleep because air is prevented from getting into the lungs.

Reports have speculated that Miliband, widely believed to have failed to make a significant impact since his election as leader last year, was having the operation to make his voice sound less nasal. He has dismissed the claims. – (Reuters)
