Reigning world champion Michael Schumacher in a Ferrari won the Canadian Formula One Grand Prix today for his sixth victory in eight races this year.
McLaren's David Coulthard came second and Schumacher's teammate Rubens Barrichello of Brazil was third at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.
Juan Pablo Montoya, who started on pole position, spun off with engine problems while leading with 13 laps to go.
The Colombian Williams driver had smoke coming out of the back of his car on lap 57 and he pulled to the side of the track at the end of the home straight.
Schumacher, who now has 70 points for a 43-point lead with nine races to go, earned Ferrari's 150th Grand Prix win.
Montoya was ahead by the first corner though Barrichello had moved past Schumacher in what appeared to be planned tactics by Ferrari.
Barrichello got past Montoya at the end of the second lap and then Montoya caused a surprise to have his first pit stop after just 14 circuits.
Montoya found himself in front by the 31st lap after both Schumacher and Barrichello had gone into the pits but his run to victory was soon to be stopped short by mechanical problems.
It was a good afternoon for the Jordan’s with Giancarlo Fisichella finishing in fifth place while team mate Takuma Sato finished tenth.
