IN her annual Christmas message, the President, Mrs Robinson, reaffirmed her hopes for a lasting peace in the North and for peace and reconciliation to help the victims of violence throughout the world.
Mrs Robinson sent special greetings to Irish people living abroad, in particular to those involved in peacekeeping and humanitarian aid work over seas.
"Their contribution also reflects the true spirit of Christmas - a spirit that is generous and giving, an exemplary humanitarian commitment," she said.
The President also directed her greetings to those who were ill or alone this Christmas, and those who were separated from their families or in need of comfort.
"Christmas is a time when people reach out to others but it can also be a lonely time for many. I hope that this year Christmas will bring support and consolation to you."
