Lord Dunsany, a member of the noted Plunkett family, was the 20th in the family to carry the title. His funeral, solely a family affair, took place on Friday.

His wife Lady Dunsany said her husband’s sudden death had devastated the family. They had opted for a private burial in the grounds of the abbey at Dunsany, Co Meath. Born Edward Plunkett, he was a well-known artist and sculptor from a family which had included St Oliver Plunkett and Sir Horace Plunkett, founder of the co-operative movement. The family is descended from William the Conqueror, the first Norman king of England. The memorial Mass takes place at 7.30pm in the Church of the Assumption, Dunsany.
