The funeral took place this morning of Melissa Mahon, the 14-year-old schoolgirl victim of convicted killer Ronnie Dunbar.
The burial took place this morning in Sligo Cemetery following 11am Mass in St Anne’s church.
Arrangements for the funeral could only be made after the trial had finished.
Last night, some 70 people attended the church for the removal service, and there was a Garda presence both outside and inside the church.
The young teenager was killed almost three years ago and her skeletal remains were only discovered following information gardaí received from the daughter of the killer.
It was thought that in the event of an appeal by Dunbar, also known as Ronald McManus, the funeral would have to be deferred. However, authorities released the remains on Monday.
