Jakarta - The Indonesian opposition leader, Ms Megawati Sukarnoputri, told hundreds of thousands of delirious supporters yesterday that victory in Monday's general election was within their grasp.
She urged her backers not to sell their votes in what was her final campaign rally for the Indonesian Democratic Party Struggle (PDI-P).
"We have been oppressed for many, many years. We have been pushed aside for many, many years but now we can win," she said. "Do not sell your vote."
Ms Megawati, who arrived at the Jakarta rally by helicopter to Muslim cries of "God is Greatest", did not elaborate. Vote-buying has been common in previous elections.
