It's a busy lifestyle these top golfers lead nowadays. Paul McGinley just completed a third round 70 in the European Open at the K-Club today and as soon as the Dubliner stepped off the 18th he was making plans to get to Croke Park.
The K-Club touring pro is an avid Dublin fan and was heading straight for a spot in the Hogan Stand to watch Tommy Lyons' men take on Armagh in a repeat of last year's All-Ireland Football semi-final.
As for his golf, McGinley openly admits that he struggles to see the right shots around the K-Club. "I don't find the course easy, I wish I could see it the same way Darren [Clarke] does, he's playing really well and the course suits him," said McGinley referring to his fellow Ryder Cup player and overnight leader.
"It's a difficult golf course with a lot of tough shots. I shape the ball right to left and your eye suits different shots," explained McGinley. "Playing Loch Lomond next week will suit me much better." That said, McGinley still made six birdies, which is something he claims not to have been doing around the K-Club in recent years." "I still dropped some silly shots though and four bogeys just isn't good enough if you want to compete," explained the 36-year-old who will go into the final day on two under.
"Take the 11th for example, I drove it under a tree and had to play the ball out left-handed. The old hurling skills came in handy," added McGinley before setting off with his family to GAA headquarters for this afternoon's qualifier.
