EU commissioner-designate Mr Charlie McCreevy is in Brussels today for a series of informal meetings in relation to his new post.
Mr McCreevy will take up the job of Commissioner for the Internal Market and Services from November 1st, subject to a hearing before the European Parliament.
He will be expected to answer a questionnaire for the hearings, which will ask him general questions about the future of the EU, as well as more technical questions about his portfolio.
The incoming commission held its first meeting this morning, focusing on how it plans to operate over the next five years.
Mr Peter Mandelson, the EU Commissioner for Trade, and Mr Markos Kyprianou, the Commissioner for Health and Consumers Protection, were among those who met Mr McCreevy prior to the meeting.
