Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren today confirmed that he has inquired about the availability of Manchester United's unsettled striker Dwight Yorke.
McClaren, who coached Yorke when he was assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, has made a tentative inquiry about Trinidadian international Yorke in a bid to boost an attack that has scored just 19 goals in 20 Premiership matches this season.
"I know Dwight very well and I know what a great player he is and what a great acquisition he would be for Middlesbrough," McClaren said.
"It's just a tentative inquiry at the moment and it's gone no further.
"It's really just a question of weighing up the options, seeing what's out there and with the restrictions we've got at the club at the moment, making funds available - which is difficult."
The 30-year-old former Aston Villa striker has struggled to command a regular first-team place at United this season.
Reports have also linked Yorke with English Premiership side Fulham.
