A Mayo-born grandfather who married 19 times is to serve a prison sentence for bigamy at weekends because of his age.

Oliver Killeen (75) was sentenced to 90 days in prison in Toronto, Canada, on conviction for the first of his fraudulent marriages into which he entered in 1978.

He pleaded guilty in a Toronto courthouse to one count of bigamy after admitting he married Barbara Daniels in 1978 while still married to another woman. Details of the previous marriage emerged when Ms Daniels filed for divorce.

He served a prison sentence for bigamy in Britain in 2004.
