Japanese mobile handset maker Matsushita and Nokia have announced an agreement under which Matsushita will start evaluating and testing Nokia's Series 60 platform.

The recently introduced Series 60 platform is a terminal-software platform for smart phones that Nokia licenses to other mobile-handset manufacturers as a source-code product.

Manufacturers will be able to integrate the Series 60 platform into their phone designs.

The Series 60 Platform is designed for phones that will provide users with easy-to-use, one-hand operated handsets characterised by advanced communications applications.

The licensees will be able to integrate the software platform into their application-driven phone designs and so speed up the rollout of new phone models at lower costs.

It will consist of key telephony and personal information management applications, browser and messaging clients, and a modifiable user interface.
