Belgrade - Tens of thousands of people streamed into the streets of Belgrade and other Serbian cities yesterday to demand the resignation of President Slobodan Milosevic. It was the start of an orchestrated campaign set to intensify in coming days.
The opposition Alliance for Change, which is behind the rallies, intends to involve more than 50 cities and towns in the daily protests by the weekend in a stepped-up phase of demonstrations it organised in July and August.
In Belgrade, more than 20,000 people blew whistles and horns in a jeering howl as they passed the Serbian parliament and state-controlled television building.
