HUNDREDS MARCHED through Tuam at the weekend in support of striking Coca-Cola workers who have lost their jobs at the firm’s depot in the town.
The company has outsourced to private operators its deliveries from depots such as the one in Tuam and in a number of other towns around the country.
The march was organised by Tuam Town Council. Speaking to those taking part, Mayor Tom Reilly called for a boycott of Coke products in Tuam and in other towns around Ireland where the company has a presence until the dispute is settled.
He praised a number of Tuam shops that have already removed the firm’s products from their shelves. He said it was vital that the company moved to meet Labour Court recommendations and end the dispute. Mr Reilly led the march through the town and members of the town council carried placards stating that they supported the striking workers.
