Dundee midfielder Giorgi Nemsadze claims an agreement has been reached for Diego Maradona to play in a friendly for the Dens Park club against Serie A outfit Napoli.
Although Dundee officials have refused to confirm a deal has been reached, Nemsadze is already looking forward to playing with the man recently voted 'Player of the Century' in an official FIFA poll.
"As far as I know, Maradona has already sent his agreement by fax and is being paid £250,000 for one game," the Georgian star told Onefootball.com.
"He is great friends with Claudio Caniggia, and I can't wait to play with a living legend."
If a deal has been reached it will fulfil a promise Caniggia made when he joined the Tayside outfit earlier this season.
Caniggia vowed to bring his close friend and fellow Argentinian Maradona to the club when he arrived in October.
The prospect of him arriving in Dundee moved a step closer with Caniggia signing a new contract until 2003 last week.
It remains to be seen how much natural ability a heavily overweight Maradona has retained following years of drug abuse, for which he has recently undergone treatment in Cuba.
But Dundee fans are sure to flock to see one of the game's most famous stars in action, rekindling a striking partnership with Caniggia which took Argentina to the final of the 1990 World Cup.
Maradona enjoyed some of the greatest moments of his career with Napoli, earning hero status when he steered the southern Italian side to the Serie A title in 1987 and 1990.
"We would be delighted not just for ourselves but the fans as well if Diego Maradona was able to turn out in the dark blue of Dundee for a glamorous friendly at Dens Park," said a Dundee spokesman tonight. -PA
