There was a 1 per cent rise in the prices paid for goods leaving Irish factories in April compared to the previous month according to data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

On an annual basis, prices were down 0.4 per cent. The price index for export sales rose by 0.8 per cent in the month, while the index for home sales increased by 1.7 per cent.

Specific sectors which saw a rise in wholesale prices in the month were dairy products which rose by 2.4 per cent from March and electrical equipment which was up 3.2 per cent. Prices for fish and fish products fell by 1.4 per cent.

The price of energy products rose by 0.3 per cent during the month, while petroleum fuels rose by 0.9 per cent. On an annual basis, energy prices fell by 1.8 per cent in the year to April 2010, though the price of petroleum fuels rose by 25.2 per cent.

Building and constructions materials rose by 0.4 per cent in April month-on-month and 1.5 per cent in the year to April. However, the price of timber (excluding windows and doors) fell by 7.8 per cent during the year, while copper pipes and fittings rose by 14 per cent.
