A man and a woman in their twenties have been arrested by gardaí investigating the seizure of 54 kilograms of heroin in what is reportedly the largest find made in the history of the State.
The two were arrested in the Kilmainham area shortly after 2pm.
The man is being held at Kilmainham Garda Station and the woman at Kevin Street Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act. Under this act they can be held for up to seven days.
The street value of the drugs confiscated is estimated to be in the region of €15 million. A machine gun, ammunition and drug-mixing agents were also recovered.
The find was made at apartment complex off the Nangor Road, in Clondalkin, shortly after 8pm last Tuesday.
Three cars parked close to the apartment were searched and have been taken away for forensic examination.
