A Co Kerry man, who repeatedly slashed tyres on his wife's car, has been jailed for 12 months for breaching a barring order, the High Court has been told. Yesterday, Mr Justice Shanley refused to grant Gerry Doyle, of Derrincullig, Kilgarvan, bail pending an appeal against conviction and sentence in Killarney District Court on September 2nd last.
Garda Tom McDonald told the court Doyle had breached the barring order several times and his wife lived in fear of him. Once, his 22-year-old son tied his father "hand and foot" while awaiting the arrival of gardai.
Garda McDonald said Mrs Doyle had to replace 40 tyres on her car following incidents of Doyle's slashing them. "Once he takes drink he's unstoppable," Garda McDonald said.
