Calais - French police have sent back a Russian man who evaded all security measures to walk safely through the Channel Tunnel from Britain to France. The unidentified man, aged 36, took two days to walk the 50 km from the mouth of the tunnel in southern England to the French end near Calais, police said.
Tunnel officials first thought his story was a hoax, but sent him back on the next train when they realised he was telling the truth. They could not say if he had walked through the train tunnel itself, in which case they said his survival would be a miracle, or took a service tunnel and hid whenever Eurotunnel employees passed by.
