A man who tried to exchange a fake Northern Ireland driving licence for an Irish licence in a Dublin motor tax office “in a complete act of stupidity” has been ordered to pay a €750 fine.

Christopher McDonagh (53), Nutgrove Crescent, Rathfarnham, pleaded guilty to possession of a false Northern Irish driving licence at the Motor Tax Office at the Nutgrove Shopping Centre on September 1st, 2008.

Garda Donal Ashe said a cashier in the Motor Tax Office showed her supervisor a Northern Ireland driving licence that a man was seeking to exchange for an Irish driving licence.

Judge Katherine Delahunt said it was “a complete act of stupidity” by a man.
