A MAN in his 40s was shot a number of times in the stomach in a pub on James Street, Dublin, last night, Colm Keenan reports.

A MAN in his 40s was shot a number of times in the stomach in a pub on James Street, Dublin, last night, Colm Keenan reports.

The man, who is originally from the area but now lives in Crumlin, was shot inside the Gate Bar, at about 11 p.m.

He was taken to St James's Hospital where a spokeswoman later described his injuries as "quite serious."

The injured man was last night named as Mr James Gantly, a married man with children, and a former soldier.

According to the gardai, two armed and masked men came into the bar, fired three shots at the man, and then made their escape.

Two balaclavas and two handguns were later recovered not far from the bar, where they had been thrown over a wall.
