A man arrested after a brawl outside a Limerick courthouse received a three-month suspended jail sentence yesterday.
Michael Stanners (21), Delmege Park, Moyross, was arrested last Monday morning, along with six other men, after a melée between two feuding gangs outside Limerick Circuit Court.
The 21-year-old was with an uncle of the two missing Limerick brothers, Kieran and Eddie Ryan, when a row broke out involving up to 15 people.
Seven men were arrested following the incident, including Stanners, who appeared before Limerick District Court yesterday charged with disorderly behaviour.
The solicitor for the accused, Mr Aeneas McCarthy, said his client had come to court last Monday for legitimate reasons but while walking into the courthouse, he was subjected to "outrageous taunts" by a large group.
"He reacted to these outrageous taunts although he shouldn't have. However, it was understandable in the circumstances," Mr McCarthy said.
