A former security officer who claims he was severely injured after he walked straight through a glass panel yesterday began a High Court action for damages.

The court was told Mr Thomas Daly had his injuries treated in Limerick Regional Hospital where, it is claimed, failure to carry out an X-ray led to a piece of glass remaining in his leg for 30 days.

Mr Daly (49), a father of three from Tullyglass Court Lower, Shannon, Co Clare, who was in a wheelchair for yesterday's hearing, claims he suffers from Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) and also has a major back problem as a result of the negligence of the defendants.

Yesterday was the opening day of Mr Daly's action for damages against Guinness Peat Aviation Ltd, Eurosec Protection Ltd, with a registered office at Tola Park, Shannon, and the Mid Western Health Board. The court was told the board owns and operates Limerick Regional Hospital.
