An elderly man was found dead at a house in Co Roscommon yesterday evening, in what gardai said were suspicious circumstances. The man was apparently alone in the house, but a local Garda spokesman said he had not been permanently resident in the area and had a family in Dublin.
The discovery was made shortly after 6 p.m. after a relative became concerned about his well-being. The scene at Shanballyvaun, near Coote Hall, was preserved overnight and a post-mortem will be carried out by the assistant State pathologist this morning.
Forensic experts from the Garda Technical Bureau are also due at the scene early today. The 74-year-old man was not being named until relatives, including some living abroad, were informed.
