LOUISIANA – The remains of a man missing for 27 years have been found lodged in a disused bank chimney.

Police in Abbeville, Louisiana, believe Joseph Schexnider became stuck and starved to death after trying to break into the bank.

His skeleton was discovered when the bank started renovations. Abbeville police said Mr Schexnider was 22 years old when his family last saw him in January 1984.

At that time, he was wanted for possessing a stolen car, but it is not clear why or when Mr Schexnider entered the chimney. The bank closed off the chimney in the 1980s. – (PA)
