A man (18) has appeared in court charged in connection with the murder of a schoolgirl at Porterstown Road, west Dublin, on Saturday last.
Jonathan Byrne of Lohunda Downs, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, appeared before Dublin District Court this morning.
Det Sergeant Daniel Callaghan told the court Mr Byrne was arrested at 11.30pm yesterday and charged at Blanchardstown Garda station shortly afterwards.
The court heard Mr Byrne made no reply when charged.
There were no objections to an application for legal aid by defence solicitor Eugene Dunne. The solicitor also requested, and was granted, medical attention for Mr Byrne.
Judge Patrick Clyne remanded Mr Byrne in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Friday, September 3rd.
Mr Byrne was wearing a grey hoodie with a CS55 logo, jeans and white trainers. He did not speak during the brief hearing.
The body of 12-year-old Michaela Davis was found on the bank of the Royal Canal close to her home on Saturday.
