A 22-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of an off-duty taxi driver in Blanchardstown on Tuesday.

Carlos Byrne of Linnitsfield Square, Clonee, appeared at a sitting of Dublin District Court this morning.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill court next Thursday.

Taxi driver Mark Smyth (31), died after he was stabbed repeatedly in the body and neck with what is thought to have been a knife.

His partner and 18-month-old son were also in the taxi and witnessed the attack.

A 25-year-old woman who was detained as part of the same investigation was released without charge and a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, a Garda statement said.
