A man in his 50s who was being detained by gardai at Henry Street station, Limerick, yesterday under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, following the shooting of a 25-year-old single man, was released without charge last night while a file was being prepared for the DPP.
The dead man was Mr Barry Connell (25), a self-employed agricultural contractor, of Clyduff, Lisnagry, Co Limerick. The body was found shortly after 9.30 on Wednesday evening in the back yard of the family home, which is about seven miles from Limerick. A post-mortem examination was carried out last night by Dr Maire Cassidy, the Assistant State Pathologist. It is understood that the victim suffered two gunshot wounds. The licensed shotgun was found near the body.
