A 19-year-old man who was being questioned by gardai in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old youth in Cork last Sunday evening was released yesterday without charge. A file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The dead youth was named yesterday as Leaving Certificate student Peter Condon of Rathcooney, Glanmire, who was stabbed in the chest when a fracas developed in the area involving a number of youths at about 9.30 p.m. on Sunday.
He stumbled to the nearby home of Mr Michael Burns and his wife, Dr Attracta Burns, with his friend, Anthony Casey (17), who was also wounded in the incident but is now in a stable condition at Cork University Hospital.
Mr Burns said that when the two injured youths arrived, his wife immediately tended to Peter Condon's more serious injuries while he did his best to help Anthony Casey.
He then telephoned the parents of the Anthony Condon, and called for Garda and medical assistance. However, the injured youth died in the Burns home. A post-mortem was carried out yesterday.
The 19-year-old man who was questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act in connection with the fatal stabbing is also from the Glanmire area. Gardai in Cork have opened an incident room to investigate the killing and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
