Gardaí are still questioning an 18-year-old suspect arrested over the April murder of Limerick businessman Roy Collins.
The teenager appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court last night where an application was made to have his period of detention extended by a further 72 hours.
The youth, who is originally from the south side of Limerick city, was arrested on Tuesday morning at a house in Meelick Co Clare and is being held at Roxboro Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Last night, Chief Supt Gerry Mahon successfully applied to Judge O’Donnell to have his detention period extended under the new legislation which allows gardai to question a suspect for up to seven days.
Father of two Roy Collins died after he was shot dead on April 9th last.
The 35-year-old was working in the family run Coin Castle amusement arcade in Roxboro Shopping centre when he was murdered.
One man is currently in custody charged with the murder of Mr Collins.
James Dillon (23) of no fixed abode, but originally from Limerick city, was charged a week after the businessman’s death.
