A Cork woman denied in the Central Criminal Court yesterday that she consented to sex in a man's car after accepting a lift home from a night-club.

The suggestion was put to the 49-year-old woman by defence counsel Mr Blaise O'Carroll SC. Mr O'Carroll said his client would claim that after consensual sex she became upset and claimed she had been raped eight years earlier by a young doctor or a doctor's son.

The accused would say she told him she had taken no action over that incident but that he (the accused) would pay. The woman denied saying she had been raped on a previous occasion. She may have said she had been in a bad relationship.

During the drive to her house after the alleged rape she told the accused she was going to report him to gardai and he began to cry, she said.
