A CO Galway man charged with the murder of his grandfather has been further remanded in custody to appear before Gort District Court next month.
At Ennis District Court yesterday, Det Insp John O’Sullivan applied for a further remand in custody of Gearóid Fahy (22), Carrownamona, Ardrahan, Co Galway, who is charged with the murder of Finbar Fahy (78) at Ballinduff, Ardrahan, on October 10th.
Mr Fahy was first remanded in custody at a special sitting of Ennis District Court earlier this month. At that court, Det Insp Gerry Roche said that in reply to being charged, Mr Fahy had said: “I am just sorry for what I have done and I am sorry for all the people I have hurt.”
In court yesterday, Mr Fahy’s solicitor Anne Dempsey was delayed by 1½ hours in getting to court due to the flooded roads.
Judge Joseph Mangan said: “I presume you came by gondola,” while Ms Dempsey replied that her lateness was beyond her control.
Det Insp O’Sullivan told Judge Mangan that the application was for a further remand in custody to December 22nd.
Judge Mangan remanded Mr Fahy in custody to reappear before Gort District Court on December 22nd for the purpose of serving the book of evidence.
