HOLIDAY in Co Mayo is planned soon for children in a English school thanks to £20,000 left by a labourer who was proud of his Irish ancestry. Mr Jack Stewart's grandmother came from Mayo, and as a boy he was taken there on holiday and loved it.
When he died at his home in Penrith, Cumbria, in February at the age of 67, he left the money to be spent on holidays for the pupils of hiss former school, St Catherine's RC School, Penrith.
The headmaster, Mr Richard Gaizely, said the bequest was a wonderful surprise. He said a week's holiday was being booked for the school's 18 sixth year pupils.
