The man who was killed when his tractor plunged nearly 100 feet down down a cliff at Killegar, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, on Thursday night was yesterday named as Mr Kevin Reddin (62), of Killegar.
Two relatives who were working with him on his farm at the time were injured when the tractor slipped into the ravine: his nephew, Mr Richard Reddin (31), and William Keane (10), a nephew of Richard.
An off-duty garda from Greystones was also injured in the accident. The three were brought to St Colmcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown.
It is understood that the men were carrying out building work on Mr Reddin's farm when the accident occurred at about 6.30 p.m.
They were driving to a nearby stream to get water when the tractor fell into the ravine. They were travelling on rough ground.
A major rescue operation was launched as soon as the alarm was raised. Three fire brigade units, gardai, members of the Glen of Imaal and the Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Teams, the Irish Coast Guard Unit and three ambulances attended.
The recovery of the injured men was co-ordinated by Dublin Fire Brigade. Mountain rescue teams were then called in for rope rescue because of the steepness of the ravine.
