A 34-year-old man has been shot dead in a flats complex on the north side of Dublin.
The man, a convicted drug dealer named locally as Anthony Foster, was shot at 1.45pm at the door of a third floor flat in Cromcastle Court in Coolock.
It is understood he was leaving his flat when a gunman opened fire with a shotgun. He died instantly.
State Pathologist Marie Cassidy attended the scene, which was cordoned off for a full forensic examination.
Detective Superintendent Seamus Kane, who is leading the murder investigation, said it was too early to identify a motive.
“Gardaí in Santry were alerted to the flats and they discovered the body of an adult male on the third floor balcony of the building,” he said.
“It would appear [his death] to be the result of a gunshot wound of some type. We are still at a very early stage of an investigation.”
The shooting happened in one of eight blocks of flats in Cromcastle Court, which is opposite Northside Shopping Centre.
