Detective Superintendent Seamus Kane, who is leading the murder investigation, said it was too early to identify a motive.

“Gardaí in Santry were alerted to the flats and they discovered the body of an adult male on the third floor balcony of the building,” he said.

“It would appear [his death] to be the result of a gunshot wound of some type. We are still at a very early stage of an investigation.”

The shooting happened in one of eight blocks of flats in Cromcastle Court, which is opposite Northside Shopping Centre.
