A 21-year-old man has died following a shooting in Dublin early this morning.

A 21-year-old man has died following a shooting in Dublin early this morning.

Shortly before 4am gardaí in Blanchardstown responded to a call from a house at Fortlawn Park in Clonsilla. It is believed the man died from wounds sustained from a shotgun in the front room of the house.

Two men, aged 18 and 23, were arrested a short time later in the vicinity of Fortlawn Park. They are being held at Finglas Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A third man aged 24 was arrested shortly before lunchtime in the Blanchardstown area. He is being held at Cabra Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A Garda spokesman said the men were at a “gathering” in the house and there were no reports of rows at the time of the shooting.

Gardaí do not believe the killing is gangland related. However, a full criminal investigation has been launched.

Gardaí also confirmed there was a legally held firearm registered to the property. The victim’s body was removed from the scene this afternoon.

The dead man lived in the house, and it is understood the three men were friends. His mother, who also resides in the house, is currently out country.
