A man has been killed and two others seriously injured in a road accident in west Belfast, reports Monika Uns-worth, in Belfast. The car they were in crashed into the gatepost of a house on Shaw's Road shortly before 6 a.m. yesterday.
The driver died instantly and it took emergency services more than an hour to cut one of the passengers free of the wreckage.
Meanwhile, the victim of a hit-and-run accident in north Belfast, a 42-year-old Catholic father of seven, has claimed the occupants of the car were loyalists attempting to kill him.
The man was standing at the corner of Spamount Street, close to the sectarian interface area of North Queen Street, when a car struck him at around 4 a.m. yesterday.
A short time later a car was found burned out in the nearby loyalist Tiger's Bay area. Police are investigating whether there is a link between the two incidents.
The man sustained head and leg injuries and had to receive 16 staples for a cut to his head.
