A man who sexually abused his four-year-old daughter while putting her to bed has been sentenced to four years in prison with one year suspended.
The 35-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the child, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two sample counts of sexual assault between October 1st, 2003, and April 4th, 2004. He had no previous convictions and has not come to Garda attention since.
Judge Katherine Delahunt registered the man as a sex offender and ordered that he undergo seven years of post- release supervision. She described it as a “most heinous crime” that represented the “grossest breach of trust, that between a father and his child”.
A victim impact statement said the child was still having trouble sleeping and was experiencing nightmares.
