A 39-year-old Ukrainian man was today jailed for two weeks for breaching British shipping laws on a boat that on its way to Scotland from Dundalk.
He was a crew member of a cargo ship that ran aground off the west coast of Scotland yesterday in a boat that had left the Co Louth port. The vessel was on its way to Glasgow to pick up scrap at the time of the collision.
Mikola Necheporenko was arrested after the 82-metre Jackie Moonwas beached at Dunoon Esplanade on the Firth of Clyde.
None of the six Ukrainian crew on the vessel, which was not carrying any cargo, was injured when it foundered near a breakwater.
The stricken ship was refloated yesterday afternoon at high tide with the help of a coastguard tug boat and anchored near Greenock.
Divers are waiting to assess if there is any structural damage to the hull before it resumes the journey.
