A man is due to appear in Dublin District Court this morning charged in connection with the death of a mother in Ballymun, Dublin.

She was named by gardai last night as Ms Linda Dunne (24), of Sillogue Road, Ballymun.

A murder investigation began early yesterday after Ms Dunne's body was discovered in her flat.

The State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, completed a post-mortem yesterday. He confirmed that Ms Dunne died from stab wounds inflicted while she was in her flat at Sillogue Road between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Detectives believe the assailant also went to Ms Dunne's parents' home, which is located in the same area, and attacked her mother and father with a knife before fleeing.

The dead woman's mother, who is in her 50s, was said to have received wounds to her chest, while her father, who is in his 40s, had wounds to his arm. Both were treated in the Mater Hospital and discharged yesterday.

The incident was said to have occurred when Ms Dunne returned to the flat after leaving her two-year-old daughter with a friend.

A 36-year-old man came forward voluntarily early yesterday to assist gardai with their inquiries. He was later arrested and held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Ballymun Garda station.
